Dear Colleague:

Welcome to the Anesthesia & Analgesia CME website, sponsored by the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS). Every month, one or more articles in Anesthesia & Analgesia will be selected for the CME program by our CME Editor, Dr. Jeffrey Gross. Articles are chosen based on the immediate clinical relevance of the material. In the print journal, these articles are noted with a CME logo in the Table of Contents and on the articles themselves. In the online journal, CME articles are highlighted in blue and designated "CME Article"® in red. A link from each online CME article to the corresponding course is also provided. From the CME home page, you may access other CME articles by subject or date.

The mission of the IARS CME activities is principally to bridge the knowledge gap created by the advent of new data and practice patterns, with the intent that the acquisition of new knowledge will ultimately lead to physician behavior changes and improved patient outcomes. The overall objective of Anesthesia & Analgesia is to provide a balanced view of both basic and clinical science. As a result of participation in the journal CME activities, learners will have increased knowledge of the latest advances in anesthesiology practice and their applications as well as recognize gaps in their knowledge that may result in a need for additional education and training.

The journal CME is designed to address the continuing medical education needs of anesthesiologists, anesthesiologists in training, anesthesia researchers, and allied health personnel who conduct research or practice or intend to practice in any area of general anesthesia, subspecialty anesthesia, or pain management.

This educational activity was planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME Essentials and Standards relating to continuing medical education. The IARS is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The IARS designates these educational activities for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

To earn CME credit you will be asked to read the designated journal article and then take a 5-question quiz prepared by the CME Editor that captures the most important "pearls." You must pass the quiz to earn the credit, and you must answer 4 out of 5 questions correctly in order to pass. You will receive a printable certificate with your CME credits after completing each quiz. You can also print a summary of your accumulated CME credit at any time from the Anesthesia & Analgesia CME website's My CME page.

This site is offered as a free benefit to IARS members. In addition to Journal CME, membership to the society provides CME credits through our online Review Course Lecture program as well as the Society Annual Meeting. To access these programs, visit the IARS CME website. For more information on becoming an IARS member, click here.
